Since before the times of Christ, there have been numerous references in history to spa therapies. La Garriga, a town that is only 25 minutes from Barcelona, has been famous for over one thousand years for the properties of its thermal waters. As early as the 9th C, the Roman town of Can Terrés was frequented by the Abadesa Xixilona, daughter of the Conde Guifré el Pilós, and later on, in the 16th C by the Reina María de Luna and her husband el Conde-Rey Martí I l'Humà. After the 19th C it became a spa for Catalan society.
