On arriving at Villa Paulita, in addition to its attractive facade of vivid reddish colour, I was riveted by the two grand
fir trees (one green and the other blue) in front and which seemed to be coming out to the welcome me. It was the
excuse to start an apparently trivial conversation with Joan, the gardener. Thus it was that I learned that those trees
were planted forty years before by Mrs. Volart for her two grandsons, one tree for each one of them. Now those c
hildren are the present owners of the Villa.
I didn’t think more of it at the time. Later, for a time that seemed to flow on and on as I enjoyed my massage at the
Bodyna, I forgot the world and its cares. I didn’t quite return to the Earth until after supper at the splendid L'Estany
de Puigcerdà.
Later, while strolling by the lake next to Villa Paulita, I thought again about the firs. And then, admiring the reflection
of the heavens in the lake, the memory came back to me that about thirty years ago. Somebody had also planted a
tree for me; a simple peach tree; a tree that my grandfather had planted so that I would always remember him.
